Travel
Airfare
- Kayak – This is the only site you’ll ever need to find the lowest airfare about 80% of the time.
- Bing Travel – Use this to see if you should wait to buy your tickets or should have bought them yesterday.
- ITA Travel – Great for looking at airfares at one month chunks. The same software professional travel agents use.
Hotels
- Kayak – Again, maybe the only tool you’ll need. See where hotels are, guest ratings, searchers all other hotel sites.
- Lonely Planet – Use the maps feature on their destination page to find clusters of restaurants and sites. Pick a hotel near that location.
Sights
- Virtual Tourist – I’ve never been steered wrong by this site. It’s written by locals who actually live in the place you’re going.
- Lonely Planet – Still the best. I don’t get the guidebooks anymore, but use either their website or iPhone applications when I’m in country.
Did we leave something off? There are many, many more tools and sites to add to this list we know, and we’ll be adding them in the near future. If you’ve had a positive experience with a service and think we should here about us, then reach out to us and we’ll be happy to add it to the list.
